NW Crisis Training
offers a range of classes and consultation services built specifically for law enforcement professionals. Every program is developed and delivered by Patrick Fudally, an active law enforcement officer with 19 years of experience and over 15 years in training and instruction, including more than a decade focused on force options.
In 2024, Patrick earned his Use of Force Instructor/Analyst Certification from the Legal and Liability Risk Management Institute (LLRMI), bringing an added depth of expertise in case law, documentation, and best practices for interactions with individuals in crisis.
Class Options
Classes can be delivered as standalone sessions or combined into a longer program depending on your department’s needs.
4-Hour Class: Introduction to Edgework Methodology A foundational course covering the core principles of crisis recognition and de-escalation as they apply to law enforcement interactions. Practical, field-relevant, and grounded in real-world experience.
Specialized Crisis Response A focused session covering strategies for interacting with individuals in extreme states of agitation and confusion. Topics include:
- Recognizing and responding to mental health crises and substance-related incidents
- Identifying when a behavioral crisis may have an underlying medical cause
- Effectively engaging appropriate resources on scene
- Best practices for safe interaction to protect all parties involved
- Documentation guidance, including how to clearly articulate actions and observations in reports
- Terminology considerations around excited delirium and alternative language
Comprehensive Program: 16 to 24 Hours A full curriculum incorporating all of the above, expanded with additional mock scenarios, use of force considerations linked to de-escalation, and case analysis including insights from San Francisco v. Sheehan for 9th Circuit agencies.
Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Program Development
Patrick works with departments to establish or strengthen CIT programs, equipping officers and deputies with the tools to apply de-escalation effectively in the field. His presentations at the 2024 Law Enforcement Training Officers Association conference in Wisconsin outlined how any department can successfully implement the NW Crisis Model, rooted in the principles of The Thin Blue Lifeline.
Customized Training
Every department operates differently. Patrick is available to discuss your agency’s specific needs and build a training plan around them, whether that’s a single session, a multi-day program, or ongoing support for your training staff.
