Law Enforcement Trainings

NW Crisis Training, LLC offers a flexible array of classes and consultation for law enforcement. Patrick is an active law enforcement officer with over 18 years of police experience. He has instructed in various realms including, firearms, Taser, defensive tactics, CIT and more. In 2024 Patrick became certified through Legal and Liability Risk Management Institute (LLRMI) as a Use of Force subject matter expert. He has studied case law and best practices to help develop this training to improve interactions with people in crisis.

We offer several class options and are open to discussing other ways we can fulfill your training needs. We offer:

  • 4 hour class on introduction to the Edgework methodology for de-escalation
  • 8 hours on introduction to de-escalation with hands on practice
  • 8 hours of introduction to de-escalation and dealing with volatile people related to specific mental illnesses (no hands on)
  • Classes on dealing with people in extreme states of agitation and confusion, formally called “excited delirium”.
    • How to recognize a medical emergency presenting as a law enforcement incident
    • How to get the proper resources on scene effectively before engaging the person
    • How to interact with the person safely and to prevent undo harm to all involved
    • Why Law Enforcement should avoid the term “excited delirium” and what to use instead
  • 16-24 hours of all of the above and
    • Additional mock scenes
    • Use of Force considerations and how de-escalation ties in to that
    • San Fransisco v Sheehan (ADA considerations, for 9th circuit agencies)
    • Best practice for articulating your actions and observations in the field and in reports
